The ALUMIVIEW Crop Optimization System (ACOS) C865C is a non-contact optoelectronic system that automates end-crop optimization in aluminum hot strip mills, using real-time image processing to detect "alligator" defects and calculate the optimal crop line while minimizing yield loss.
As the strip advances, it dynamically tracks the crop position and interfaces with the mill PLC to execute coordinated shear cuts — while also detecting the strip head/tail position and identifying surface cracks that develop during rolling.

The ACOS system can be implemented to support shear operations in configurations involving either single end cropping, where only one side of the strip is cut, or double end cropping, where both the head and tail of the strip are removed.
